Special Olympics Young Athletes (SOYA) End of Year 6.18.26
Since 2019, we have been so fortunate to have a special relationship with a special organization near and dear to our collective Crossroads heart. What started as a grant to receive equipment and curriculum has evolved into an annual uptick in fitness participation among our students. Each class utilizes the Special Olympics Young Athletes curriculum during their “Gym” times during the week, and every lesson is chock-full of exciting and doable activities that the students love.
So now, at the end of the year, we celebrate their achievements and motor growth with a SOYA end of year celebration. Occurring on Thursday, 6/18 in our gym, classes participated in short ceremonies in which each child was recognized with a ribbon, and then, all students could engage in centers set up for them throughout a hallway in the building.
The event was originally scheduled for the courtyard, but the extreme heat warning pushed us indoors. including a parachute.
Congratulations to the students and teachers on a wonderful year of building strong bodies in our new school!

A million thanks to Special Olympics New York!
Not only for the celebration and being here with us, but for the years of impact on our programming and on our students they’ve made. Our teachers find the curriculum super easy to use, and with so much flexibility built in – something our students need. We are making our communities better places together. Thank you!
