Thank you, Kiwanis Club!

The Kiwanis Club of Schenectady has been there for Crossroads for several years now, and we are so fortunate to be partnering with them again this year. A grant in the amount of $1,100 has just arrived that will allow the school to purchase needed supplies and materials for two important programs – our Social Skills Development and Healthy Food Program – throughout the 2021-22 school year.

Kiwanis is an international club whose mission is to serve the children of the world. Locally, clubs serve the children in their own communities. The Schenectady chapter is very involved in supporting many of the organizations that serve children in our county. This gift to Crossroads Center for Children is a wonderful help to run programs to benefit young learners in the 2021-22 school year.

The Healthy Food Program allows classrooms to teach students about foods and nutrition, and food preparation skills. Many of our students have rigid food preferences; we help them to expand their food repertoires and increase their healthy eating.

Social Skills Development, too, is deeply ingrained in the work of all classrooms and departments. Students learn skills for functional communication, interpersonal relationships, play skills and more, through many modalities such as art, fitness and physical education, music, games, technology, books and more. Kiwanis’s grant will help us have what our students need this school year.

This grant from Kiwanis will enable us to purchase materials that will allow us to run both programs this year. Students will benefit from large and small group instruction as well as through individual sessions, as our teachers target skills needed for making progress towards Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

Past grants from Kiwanis have supported our curricular programs, Touch Math and Learning Without Tears, along with other supplemental materials.

Thank you, Kiwanis! Your generosity and compassion are a wonderful asset to our community. At Crossroads Center for Children, we are abundantly thankful to have your support.
